Coaching for the Neurodivergent Thinker – Your Neurodiversity is your Superpower!

Coaching for the Neurodivergent Thinker

Neurodiversity is the idea that neurological differences, such as autism or ADHD, are normal and should be respected, understood, and supported. Neurodivergent isn’t a medical term. Instead, it’s a way to describe people using words other than “normal” and “abnormal.” That’s important because there’s no single definition of “normal” for how the human brain works.

What kind of things do Neurodiverse people struggle with?

  • Difficulty organizing their work lives (poor Executive Functioning).
    • For example, being unable to consistently meet deadlines
    • For example,  feeling overwhelmed with work, and unable to complete tasks (ADHD paralysis)
  • Difficulty organizing their home  lives and health. For example, forgetting to eat or binge eating, forgetting to shop for groceries, forgetting to take medications.
  • Difficulties in social interaction and relationships. For example, missing socials cues resulting in loss of friendships.
  • Verbal or non-verbal communication struggles. For example, not being able to express yourself.
  • Restricted interests. For example, getting involved in one activity (such as gaming) to the exclusion of  all others including social relationships.
  • Time Blindness – losing track of time while engrossed in an activity, resulting in missing  or being late to other events.

What are the Superpowers of Neurodivergent thinkers?

  • Ability to focus solely on one task for a prolonged period (Hyperfocus)
  • Attention to detail
  • Heightened creativity
  • High problem solving capabilities
  • Being a risk taker
  • Ability to think outside the box
